Bush is a hollow cylindrical metallic tube which installed on pump’s shaft and protects it from corrosive medium. Bushes are entirely seen in single-stage pumps. Existence of this part in pumps is crucial because pump’s shaft is usually subjected to the protection of corrosion and wear.
As we mentioned earlier bushes are often used for shafts and axles protection from wear of seals in casings. According to the design, bushes having the ability to retrieve and reuse, protect pump’s shaft from wear, corrosion and erosion in seal connections and casings.
But shafts bushes, specifically could improve more protection and its more economical to replace bushes instead of replacing shafts. For instance, a bush can protect the shaft from contacting with pump’s fluid whereas it acts like a damper and replacing it is easier and much less expensive.
As shown in your pump’s manual guide, you have to inspect your device in specific intervals. This inspection should involve opening the shaft bushes to check for erosion and replacing the casing seals. To avoid premature replacement, the best ways include regular inspection of pumps for unusual vibrations or erosion and having a scheduled program for overall pump inspection.
For replacing the bush, instructions which exist in pump’s manual guide can be used. The replacement process begins with removing the impeller. Once you have separated the bush, it is necessary to clean any rust or dirt from the shaft. If there is excessive dirt and leakage near the shaft seal, it is time to replace the bush entirely.
Do not forget to install a new sealing O-ring and impeller washers when installing a new bushin order to reach the best efficient point of the pump, knowing that your bush functions optimally is important.
